Wyedean Rally 2023

Following a strong performance at the Cambrian Rally, we experienced a remarkable turnaround in the Welsh Rally Championship, potentially elevating from 5th place pre-Cambrian Rally to 2nd based on the Wyedean result.

The first stage presented a wet, slippery challenge where our primary aim was to outpace our championship rivals. Fortunately, early results indicated our rivals encountering issues, giving us a comfortable buffer to focus on our championship recovery without taking unnecessary risks.

As we progressed into stage 2, we successfully overtook another championship rival, solidifying our position and emphasising the importance of maintaining rather than risking it all.

Despite managing a healthy lead, rough terrain took its toll, resulting in damage to the right-rear shock absorber. Additional woes surfaced with engine troubles suspected to stem from a faulty throttle pedal during SS5. Nevertheless, we navigated through these challenges, minimally impacting our standing and maintaining a gap to 3rd place.

Returning to the final service, the team adeptly resolved the car issues, enabling us to finish the rally flawlessly. Securing maximum points in the Welsh Rally Championship, achieving 2nd in our class and 35th overall, marked a personal best.

Securing 3rd place in both the Welsh and BTRDA Championships brought satisfaction despite a challenging year with mechanical retirements and an accident. Limited seat time in the car over the past two years made confidence-building a gradual process, but progress has been evident, hinting at a promising 2024.

Gratitude extends to Ignition Motorsport for their unwavering support throughout the year and a special acknowledgment to Tom and Jordan for their invaluable role in the co-driver's seat!
