Unfortunately this one was a day to forget and a reminder that motorsport can be dangerous!
We flew through the first test, over 7 miles of tarmac, grass, gravel and broken concrete roads of RMB Chivenor. We didn’t feel as though we had got into a good rhythm, I was a bit scrappy in places but we improved towards the end of the test before getting caught behind two cars in the gravel section, we couldn’t see a thing beyond the bonnet of the MG!
However, it turned out that we were 4th fastest overall! We knew we could go quicker but disaster struck in the second test of the day.
I clipped a blue barrel full of water with the o/s wing mirror, unfortunately Alex’s windows was open as we had just visited a passage control. The glass from the mirror entered the car, smashing itself against Alex’s face along with the mirror’s motor.
We were both showered in glass, Alex could feel something in her eye so we made our way out of the test and back to the service area where we were met by an ambulance crew.
The paramedics rinsed Alex’s eye and thankfully she is OK! A big thank you to North Devon Motor Club and the two paramedics! It was a shame not to be able to continue on what felt like a very well organised event!
We returned home, no trophy this time, just a big bruise, dented car and dented pride!
