A weekend of awards

A busy weekend for Jenkins Rallying & Ignition Motorsport, this time without a rally car in sight!

We started the weekend in Cheltenham for the Cotswold Motor Sport Group’s Award Evening, with awards being presented in multiple disciplines of motorsport including Road Rallying, Autosolo, Stage Rallying & Targa Rallying.

Myself and wife, Alexandra were presented with three awards in the Targa Championship:

  • 1st in class driver & navigator

  • 1st novice single venue challenge driver

  • & 1st novice single venue challenge navigator

It’s an achievement we’re quite proud of, our first year in targa was a brilliant from start to finish (maybe excluding the retirement at the Stu Wood where Alex got a mirror to the face!) competing in the best form of grassroots motorsport there is in the country on some of the best and most entertaining events!

The MG ZR that drove us to victory last year has now been sold as we move on to concentrate fully on the stage rallying side of things this year. It certainly won’t be the last of Targa for us, we might have to sneak at least one more in this year!

It was also nice to catch up with our local radio station, BBC Radio Oxford, on Friday evening where we were featured on their sport’s program to talk about our year in targa with presenter Dan Freeman - Catch up here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0dqh25d

Moving onto Saturday evening, we joined Team Ignition Motorsport at the Drayton Manor resort in Tamworth (complete with Viking themed room, dont ask…) to celebrate their achievements in the 2022 BTRDA & English Rally Championships.

Driver and friend, Colin Minton was presented with an award from each of the championships after a successful debut season in his Fiesta R5

  • 3rd in class B14 - BTRDA Rally Championship

  • 2nd in class E13 - English Rally Championship

Massive congratulations to the team who worked so hard last season, the times were constantly improving and the never give up attitude meant that the team received well deserved trophies to show for it. I’m looking forwarding to joining the Ignition Motorsport team once again this year, this time for a full season along side them in the BTRDA Rally Championship & English Rally Championship!

Fingers crossed we’ll be joining Colin & the team to collect some awards at the 2024 ceremony!

A massive thanks goes out to our sponsors who made last year a success for us all!

Also thank you to everyone else who has supported us, from providing us with childcare for our kids when we’re travelling to cheering us on out of the stages, it means the world to us.

I’m really looking forward to working with everyone again and having some fun out on the stages!
